Ever wondered what the romans ate around the time of Jesus? Here is the part two of “did you know” romans edition focusing on food.

  1. Bread and Cheese

The first food item on the list is quite a simple one, but the Romans were known for being the masters of cheese and began some of the cheese-making traditions today. The bread was usually made from several flours, including wheat and corn but was much less processed than bread in the 21st century.

2. Porridge made of millet

A simple cooked meal of millet or barely grain boiled, similar to grits or oatmeal known today but with much less luxury ingredients like butter or sugar.

3. Garum

If you have never heard this word before then we are in the same boat, as this word foreign to the English language today used to be a staple sauce in roman times. Usually made from fish (fermented) and turned into a sauce.
