“A Quick, Compelling Bible Study Vol. 111: What the New Testament Says About Satan” is a Bible study written by Myra Adams for townhall.com. She is a religious writer with numerous national credits. Her book, “Bible Study For Those Who Don’t Read The Bible,” reprints the first 56 volumes of this study. She is also the Executive Director of SignFromGod.org, a ministry dedicated to Shroud of Turin education. Lastly, she was interviewed on the Backstory of the Shroud of Turin a few weeks ago.

Today we are going over vol. 111 that was released on the May 1st, 2022 edition and is a continuation of numerous studies written by Adams focusing around evil and temptation. This Bible study uses a series of examples to convey how the New Testament portrays Satan.

Let Us Get Started

The first example Adams delves into is the “noteworthy confrontation between Jesus and the Pharisees,” which are “Jewish holy” leaders threatened by Jesus’s teaching who plotted against Him after Jesus performed miracles that increased His following.” The particular example Adams uses is in Matthew 12, where “Jesus had just healed “a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute,” and now “he could both talk and see.” As expected, people were stunned to see this act, and wondered if “this be the Son of David?” however, the Pharisees saw a much different light to this act and stated: “It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this man drives out demons.”

From this quote, Adams asks, “Were the Pharisees imprudent to accuse Jesus of being the devil after He healed a demon-possessed man?” Which is a great question to ponder.

What was the answer used in the Bible?

Jesus’ answer, however, was “‘Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you” (Matthew 12: 25-28).

The remainder of the study goes into several great examples of what the New Testament says about satan. However, I recommend reading the entirety of the column for the whole study experience.
