For centuries, scholars and believers have revered the Shroud of Turin as the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Yet few know about another sacred linen — the Sudarium of Oviedo. In his presentation at the Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference, Professor Jorge Manuel Rodriguez Almenar uncovers the extraordinary history and scientific evidence surrounding this ancient relic.

The Sudarium of Oviedo, preserved in Spain since the 7th century, is believed to have covered Christ’s face after His crucifixion. Through extensive studies involving forensic medicine, textile analysis, and 3D modeling, researchers found remarkable bloodstain patterns and fabric folds that perfectly align with those on the Shroud of Turin. These findings strongly suggest that both relics once covered the same person.

Professor Almenar also traces the relic’s journey from Jerusalem to Oviedo, describing how it survived the Persian invasions, the Muslim conquest, and centuries of veneration in the Holy Chamber of the Oviedo Cathedral.

This talk bridges faith and science, inviting viewers to explore one of Christianity’s greatest mysteries — the burial cloths that testify to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
