At the Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference & Symposium, Bill Lauto delivered a fascinating presentation titled Coinciding Historical, Environmental, Geological, and Celestial Data with Gospel Writings. His research highlights how scientific evidence aligns with scripture and strengthens the case for the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Lauto draws on his background as an environmental and energy scientist to present findings from astronomy, climate studies, and archeology. He explains how Dead Sea core samples reveal signs of an earthquake and dust storm in 33 AD, perfectly matching the Gospels’ descriptions of darkness and trembling earth at the time of the Crucifixion.

Astronomical data adds further confirmation. Using updated calculations on Earth’s rotation, scientists have shown that a blood-red lunar eclipse was visible over Jerusalem on April 3, 33 AD. Combined with historical and geological records, this evidence strongly supports that date as the Crucifixion.

Lauto also connects pollen evidence, warming trends, and regional climate data to explain environmental conditions in Jerusalem during Holy Week. These interdisciplinary insights strengthen the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin as a witness to Christ’s Passion.

For Lauto, the harmony of faith and reason is essential. The data affirms what the Gospels proclaim: that Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose again.
