The Museum of the Bible revealed their newest exhibit titled “Mystery & Faith: The Shroud of Turin,” bringing the Holy Shroud to life in the United States starting in March 2022. The exhibit’s opening included several presentations by leaders in Sindonology (The study of the Shroud of Turin), including many of whom I had the honor to speak with, and interview or will be speaking: They include Barrie Schwortz, the documenting photographer from STURP, and Russ Breault, one of the preeminent Shroud experts, Professor Cheryl White and Father Spitzer.
The Exhibit
The Museum of the Bible calls the new exhibit “A fascinating, innovative, and interactive exhibit about the Shroud of Turin opening February 26th, 2022”.
Overall, the Museum of the Bible exhibit showcased an innovative experience to learn about the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud is one of the most studied relics, but not without controversy.
The museum notes it as: “Few artifacts in the world have stirred the imagination, provoked controversy, raised hypotheses—and for some, fortified faith—as has the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud resides in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, as it has for over four centuries. It bears a faint, yellowed image of a naked, crucified man and is believed by millions of Christians to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth”.
The curator, Jeff Kloha, spoke about the technology used to optimize visitors’ interaction with the exhibit which I was able to experience while visiting. The technology in each of the five sections of the exhibit allowed me to see new perspectives of the Shroud of Turin and its history.
The Presentations
The exhibit’s opening included presentations from leaders in the field of research of the Shroud of Turin. These presentations greatly impacted the understanding and appreciation of the Shroud of Turin to those interested in learning and studying it.
