At The Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference & Symposium, nuclear engineer Bob Rucker presented a groundbreaking analysis that may reconcile science with faith. His talk, “Neutron Absorption Explains the Carbon Dating Consistent with the Authenticity of the Shroud,” explores how radiation from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ could have affected the Shroud’s carbon dating results.

Rucker’s hypothesis proposes that during the Resurrection, a burst of radiation containing neutrons interacted with nitrogen atoms in the linen fibers. This reaction created new Carbon-14, artificially aging the cloth to appear medieval in radiocarbon testing. His calculations—based on advanced nuclear simulation models—suggest that neutron absorption could fully explain the 1260–1390 AD dating published in 1989, without dismissing the Shroud’s first-century origin.

Backed by decades of nuclear experience and 12 years of Shroud research, Rucker shows how consistent nuclear evidence, image formation mechanisms, and cross-laboratory data point toward a scientifically plausible explanation. His findings turn the once “definitive” carbon dating on its head, suggesting instead that it may be the strongest evidence for the Shroud’s authenticity.
