At the Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference & Symposium, Otangelo Grasso delivered a visionary presentation titled From the Past to the Future. In it, he traced the Shroud’s historical role and its future potential in global evangelism.
Grasso began by revisiting the Shroud’s historical path. From Constantinople to Lirey, France, and finally to Turin, the cloth has inspired devotion, drawn pilgrims, and shaped Christian identity for centuries. Pilgrims wept, skeptics became believers, and communities were transformed when the Shroud was exhibited.
He highlighted the revolutionary moment of 1898, when Secondo Pia’s photographic negative revealed the face of the crucified man in unprecedented clarity. Later discoveries — such as 3D imaging and forensic analysis — confirmed the Shroud’s unique properties. These findings, Grasso explained, point directly to the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
But Grasso’s central message was forward-looking. He emphasized that the greatest challenge is not proving authenticity but sharing the Shroud globally. While Western scholars debated, most of the world remained unaware of the evidence. Today, with digital tools, exhibitions, and AI reconstructions, the Shroud can reach new generations across continents.
Grasso called on every believer to become a “Shroud ambassador.” Whether through social media, exhibitions, or simple conversations, sharing the Shroud’s testimony can touch hearts where arguments fail. For Grasso, the Shroud is not only a relic of the past but also a powerful instrument for the future of evangelism.
