At the Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference & Symposium, Pam McCue delivered a compelling presentation titled The Science and Wonder of the Shroud of Turin. With a career in engineering and defense science, McCue brings a unique perspective that combines scientific analysis with the wonder of faith.
McCue began her study of the Shroud after retirement and now shares its story through exhibits and lectures nationwide. Her talk highlighted evidence that supports the Shroud’s first-century origins, including pollen unique to the Holy Land, rare limestone particles from Jerusalem, and iconographic depictions that match the Shroud’s image.
She also addressed the controversial Carbon-14 dating test, showing how its flaws have been exposed. Alternative dating methods, textile comparisons, and forensic details point toward the Shroud’s authenticity as a burial cloth from the time of Jesus Christ.
McCue examined the forensic evidence of scourging, crucifixion, and burial visible on the Shroud. From the scourge marks and crown of thorns to the wound in Christ’s side, the cloth records details that align with the Gospels. She further explained the Shroud’s unique image formation — superficial fiber coloration, photographic negative properties, and 3D data — phenomena that science cannot yet reproduce.
For McCue, the Shroud is more than an artifact. It is a witness to Jesus Christ’s Passion, death, and Resurrection. Her presentation inspires both deeper study and greater devotion.
