Ever wonder where the shroud is located today? The sacred cloth is located in the city of Turin, which is nestled in the northern region of Italy. Originally Chambery was the capitol of Savoy until it was moved to Turin in 1536.

Where can I see the shroud?

You can see replicas of the shroud from the Most Holy Shroud Museum; click the link to visit their website. The museum is open Monday through Sunday from 3 to 6 pm, a perfect quick stop to see the history and mystery behind the Shroud of Turin. The museum emphasizes its purpose as “the place permanently addressed to the worship, disclosure, knowing and study of the Holy Shroud; apart from the sporadic exhibitions, it is the only place that allows approaching the scientific and historical questions related to the Holy Shroud”.

Turin, Italy

Where is the real Shroud?

But where is the authentic Shroud? The authentic sacred cloth is housed in the Cathedral of Turin, explicitly built for the shroud. However, it is usually only brought out once or twice each decade for the public to see.

Check out this article on its release in 2020 from vaticannews.va, written by Robin Gomes which explains the release. Gomes states: “The announcement of the extraordinary display of the revered cloth was made by Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia of Turin at Wroclaw, Poland, where this year’s annual meeting of Europe’s young people, known as the “Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth”,  is currently taking place. The Taizé Community has chosen the northern Italian city of Turin as the venue of its next meeting of Europe’s young people, scheduled from December 28, 2020, to January 1, 2021.”
