At the Shroud of Turin 2025 International Conference & Symposium, Massimo Paris delivered The Holy Shroud of Turin: the centrality of Christ, the Contemplation of God, and the Search for Happiness. His lecture brought together theology, philosophy, and art history to show how the Shroud speaks to the deepest human questions.

Paris, born in Rome and now based in Pennsylvania, has spent over 30 years studying the Shroud. His work combines expertise in medicine, archaeology, art history, and theology. He argues that the Shroud of Turin is not simply a scientific puzzle but a metaphysical and theological symbol pointing directly to Jesus Christ.

In his presentation, Paris highlighted how Christian art and symbolism reveal the Shroud’s deeper message. The cloth demonstrates not only the unimaginable suffering of Christ but also His infinite love and the promise of Resurrection. Paris explained that true art is metaphysical, intended to raise the soul to divine truth, and the Shroud embodies this purpose perfectly.

He further connected the Shroud to the Tree of Life, the search for meaning, and the human desire for happiness. Paris emphasized that happiness cannot be found in material possessions but only in God, through Christ. The Shroud, he concluded, is a sign that leads us to contemplation, transformation, and ultimately to eternal joy in the Resurrection.
